UBUNTU deserves a section of its own.

Version 10.10 Maverick Meerkat released Oct 10 2010

"Super-fast and great-looking, Ubuntu is a secure, intuitive operating system that powers desktops,
servers, netbooks and laptops. Ubuntu is, and always will be, absolutely free.
Created by the best open-source experts from all over the world, Ubuntu is available in 24 languages and ready for download today."

My Notes ; I have been using Ubuntu for more than a year on my main system. It is easier to use than Windows and comes loaded with most you would need. Any programs you need that are not included with the distro are easy to find in the package managers, simple to install without rebooting. There are all the equivalent programs for Windows but all that go with Ubuntu are free. Some Windows programs can be used in Ubuntu using Wine or a virtual o/s program running Windows.
Something not noted is that once Ubuntu is downloaded and burned to a cd, it will boot up in "Live CD" mode and let you use it and save your changes on the cd and not effect your computer unless you install Ubuntu.

UBUNTU SUPER O/S
BASED ON UBUNTU 10.10 WITH A LOT MORE, SOME PROGRAMS MORE FAMILIAR TO MOST.

SUPER O/S REPOSITORY OF EXTRA PROGRAMS

A great list of good programs.

My Notes : I have been using Super O/S for a couple of months and do prefer it over UBUNTU. The drivers are more complete covering just about all equipment and everything sets up so automatically nice and fast. Its about the most complete O/S out there. Highly recommended.
